Collaboration

Located in the centre of city of Aberdeen, in the midst of business of life, St John’s Church seeks to provide a space for retreat and reflection in the beauty and splendour of art, architecture and above all prayers of the church past, present and the future.

St John's provides Sacred Space for exploring the meaning of life and beyond. Our own limitations are the only boundary. Entry into it and exit from it is a personal choice. It is like the Door with which Jesus compared himself, where one goes in and out to find meaning and purpose. The invitation to be part of this Sacred Space is as open as the generosity of God's love. There is nothing reserved for special ‘members' that is not available to all.

At the same time, for the purposes of communication, it is useful to have contact details for those who want to make this space their own. If you wish to be kept in touch, or desire to make some further commitment to the ethos of the Sacred Space at St John's, the Rector will be glad to assist you with the process. Contact details can be found here.

The right to receive Holy Communion is seen as a sign of full membership by some churches. St John's welcomes all baptised Christians to receive communion at any of the four communion services each week.

When the heart is hard and parched up,
come upon me with a shower of mercy,
When grace is lost from life, come with a burst of song.
When tumultuous work raises its din on all sides shutting me out from beyond, come to me, my Lord of silence, with thy peace and rest.
When my beggarly heart sits crouched, shut up on a corner, break open the door, my king, and come with the ceremony of a king.
When desire blinds the mind with delusion and dust, O thou holy One, thou wakeful, come with thy light and thunder.
Rabindranath Tagore, 1861-1941
